E34 Stock Chip Change

I hope Im asking a unique question for ponder rather than asking a stupid question but here goes...

Is it possible to use a stock chip from an E34 525i model in a 518i of the same year? I was considering if it could be used to give a slight improvement to the power and the reason I ask is because I upgraded a 525 with a performance chip and have the stock one left and would use it if it will work.

Alternatively I would be willing to try it out anyway if anyone can advise whether it could possibly cause any damage or issues.

Ha, thanks for that. I was so preoccupied with the electrics I completely overlooked the engine setup. Thanks for the correction.
