I have a 92 525i with the m50. on the way home tonight after work just getting on to the free way all of a sudden the car starts running ruff. Try to excelerateout of it,but continues to run ruff. limped home to the driveway and new that I had a set aof plugs in the garage so I went ahead and changed the plugs( didnt look like I had a dead cylinder). Afer chnging them still had a ruff idle. I am baffeled by this car has been funning great and no check lights or anything. any help would be great.
It could be a couple of things, I recently had this problem.
Start by checking the vacuum lines for leaks.
Then check the MAF, wouldn't hurt to clean that.
My problem was the coil packs going bad, because I used spark plugs that were out of range (ohm resitance, not heat) and it just wore them out over time.
What plugs did you have in there, and what's in there now?

Explain this limping home please. Does this mean you were not able to top a speed above 40 mph or something smilar to that? Or just flat out weak acceleration?
A more expensive issue may also be a cracked fuel pump. How many miles do you have on your car?

Just got the bad news. One of two things happend either the coil pack shorted out and burned up the computer or the computer shorted out and burned up the coil pack. Man I have had a bad day.
