My father gave me his 1990 525I, it is in excellent condition, except I am having a problem with the drivers side power seat. The seat moves forward, up and down, but will not move backwards. My feeling is it must be the power seat switch. My question is are there separate motors to move the seat forward and back or does one motor do both functions. Also, how difficult is it to remove the switch or the seat if need be.
you might want to take the black knob (the one with positioning arrows) off and try moving the switches that way.. I believe it pulls right off.. Thats what was wrong with mine.. The motor was fine, but the connection to the switch was bad.
As numberthree_ said, pull the switch cover off, and spray everything with electrical cleaner (make sure you disconnect the battery just in case), then put it back on and wiggle it back and forth a few times to loosen up some of the dirt that may have accumulated there over the years.
If that doesn't work, I really don't know what it could be since I believe it's one motor pushing both ways.
