I just bought a 94 model 520i. It came with just one key and no manuals,
so I'm confused what options are fitted and what are not.
I can use the key in any of the locks and it works the central locking fine.
But should this car also have keyless entry? Can I buy a keyless
entry fob from bmw?
Does this car have an alarm or immobiliser, how do I tell?
I believe the engine can be immobilised by entering the code into the OBC.. not sure,... and I don't know how it works.
As for the keyless entry BavAuto sells a plug and play kit for about 60 US dollars... you just hook it up to existing connectors in the trunk and there you go.
aditional keys cost about 25 US dollars to be made and you have to go to the dealer.

Thanks for replying, forgive my lack of bmw knowledge but what is an OBC?
For the keyless entry my feeling is the car is alrewady fitted with a factory
keyless entry but the control unit was lost. How can I tell if this is correct?
I assume that this model came with a keyless entry as standard.
ON BOARD COMPUTER sits near you heater control....little screen with a small pad like number on it..... 1, 10, 100, 1000 etc on some older models a code once entered by you it will be required on next start. Think in terms of a password on your PC..well numerical that is; it displays Code Lock, Mileage, Temp etc !!

$25? we are talking about an older generation of integrated keys here. How much should we expect to pay for a newer generation with enhanced memory chip? Not powered by a battery either. Charged by ignition switch; something similar (but not exact) to your BMW flash light in the glove box?
your model came ready for a remote/alarm...but did not necesarrily have one installed. Pull out the rear seat (it's very easy to do). If you have a little black box in there somewhere on the driver's side, then you just need to replace the key fob/remote. These can be gotten from ebay for $25-$50...or $120+ from dealer for a new one. While you're looking at the black box, write down the model number so that you can make sure you get the right remote.
