E34 Airconditioning Problems.

I was down in Florida and my A/C just quit on me.

I'm pretty sure that I don't have a 'final stage' unit or whatever that thingy is that the E39's have.

I checked Bav Auto and I'm thinking it's either the blower or the resistor. Is there any way to check if the blower motor is shot, or should I just replace it all.

With the fan turned on full blast, there was no air moving, although the vents themselves would be cold, indicating my compressor was working, I just couldn't flow the air.

Not a great way to drive back to Atlanta from Tampa. Luckily I figured out what combination of window/sunroof open gave me decent airflow without too much noise.

I assume you have already checked the fuses?

Well stuck in a ditch!

I didn't check it because there was no load change when the blower stopped working, and honestly I was too worn out to be hopeful that it would be an easy fix.

I swapped the cig lighter fuse for the blown blower one and it fired right up.

I'm still concerned that my resistor is on the way out because it shouldn't have failed running in 88* weather. Besides, wouldn't the resistor failing cause a larger amperage draw and thereby cause the trip?

I'm going to take it to work tomorrow and see how long the fuse lasts.
