e34 540I heater only works on full speed!!!

hi i have an 1994 e34 540I, initally my fan ran on after the engine had stopped and flattened my battery then i messed around with bits and pieces namely what i believe in the final stage resistor down in the passenger footwell then it stopped running on and now only works on speed 4 (the fastst) ive tried changing the control unit on the dash (for a 2nd hand admittedly) and the final stage i fitted was also second hand but i would think there is a problem somewhere else as i doubt the problem would be identical

Souds like your heater valves need cleaning or replacing.

thanks for reply mate but im quite sure its an electrical problem im bit stumped now lol
