I have got a standard 1989 E34 535i sport and am considering an inexpensive performance chip upgrade.
I have also seen an advert in a BMW car magazine for a chip called a 'Viper 2' for approx. £50. (this is an Eprom and not a resistor type chip). It states that they give an improvement of approx. 20bhp.
Can anyone verify the performance gains and/or have any experience of this chip.
Never heard of these cheap ones... I would personally go for BavAuto chip. it does cost 250$, but at least you know what you are buying and incase you get other performance mods you can send it and have them reprogram it free.

BavAuto, thanks for the info... I'm also chip shopping.
Who else has advice? Seems people have the EA Chip, or some name similar to that. More opinions anyone?
