Question e34 525tds mileage led not working

Hi, wonder if anyone can help please? my 525tds (1995) has a faulty mileage led on the dash, you cannot read its mileage properly, and this is an mot failure in Spain where the car is located. (maybe the same in UK too?)

Is there a fix for this that isn't too difficult, don't really want to have to take the dash out!!

Some of the leds are visible and some are not, and this seems to vary from day to day. Some days nothing is visible at all, and some days just a few on.

If the led display has to be replaced, then the cars mileage will be different won't it, and do you then have to register the change somewhere?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Usually thats caused by poor soldering on some of the connections failing. Fixing it will require removing the guage cluster and re soldering them as needed, or a full replacement of the custer.

I dont know if you can do it on a 95, but on OBDII cars the milage is stored in the cluster and the ECU, so you can re-program the cluster to display the correct milage.
