E34 - Wheels!

I'm looking at a set of 2005 745Li 18-inch wheels for my 1994 540i. The tire specs are 245/50R18. I see on the bmwe34.net website they say "You can use 245-40-18 tire for the front and 265-35-18 for the rear." But is that the MAX or will these wheels and tires fit on my e34 (stock, not lowered)? Thanks!

Greg

The 245 part is how wide the tires are, in millimeters. The 40-50 portion is a ratio of the given width to the height of the sidewall. The 40 is 40% of 245, which would have a 98 mm sidewall height, and the 50 would be 122.5 mm. I have 245/40/18 (18x8 wheels) on all four corners and it has never given me problems (except for a blowout in the rear, on the highway, but thats a different story).

It will just be a shorter tire, with the same width. With that said, your speedometer may be affected a little, having a shorter tire, it will read faster than you are actually going.

As for bolt pattern and some other issues, someone else will have to chime in.

Hope that helps...

The bolt pattern is probably the same but taking a look at the e65's I highly doubt the offset will be even close. The offset on your car is +20 I believe. Also it's pretty standard but be careful of the center bore size.

More about my E34...

Now that I've posted a couple replies, I figure maybe some of you would be interested in seeing pics of the car I recently acquired: a 1994 540i with 98k miles (since then I've put 1,000 mi on it).

The car is clean, runs great, and is a bimmer. Fully loaded, guy sold it to me with new brembo (?) front brakes, all new front suspension, K&N filter, 2 10-in subs, tinted windows, and blacked-out chrome (tape). Car spent much of its life in Texas (no rust), but has a supposed "flood title" (absolutely no evidence of such an occurence). All for? $4500. Let me know if you think I got a deal...

I am now considering replacements for the stock wheels. I don't have lots of money to spend, so I'm currently looking at these M5 replica wheels as possible options (~$650/set of 4). Pics of the superimposed wheels are at the end... opinions anyone?? 17" or 18"? Would the improvement of looks be worth the $1000 for new wheels/tires for a poor guy like me? Thanks for your input!

Rims?

The first picture shows the current wheels on my car. The next three are possible M5 replica replacements that have been superimposed. 17 or 18"? Worth a change? Or you can direct me to other rim options

those tires are too big. you want to run a 235/40-18 or a 245/40-18.

dyami and da bull... if by "third picture" you are referring to "BMW _2.jpg", then yes, I'd have to agree those are the wheels I am leaning towards the most right now! Very much the elegant BMW styling...

shragon... yes, the pictures are for the sole purpose of choosing rim styles only. I am currently considering 235/45-17 tires for 17-inch "BMW _2.jpg" wheels
