Hey guys, I was looking at my car (1987 528e), drawing plans etc. (if i get a hold of a scanner ill send along the blueprints of what im going to do with it). Anyway so i was looking at the M3 e30 from 1980ish and i really couldnt tell the difference except the e30 is a coupe. So i was wondering if i could drop the M3 engine into my e28. Would this be possible?

i think it is possible and not hard to do. i mean the engine bay in the e34 is large enough to fit any engine... and as far as i know the e28 is the same way.

i'll researh that later...gotta do a book review now.

you need the complete engine (oil pan, all the sensors, radiator, ...etc), new ECU (engine control unit/ engine management computer), .... aside from that it should be fairly easy to do.

Has anyone tried to just swap the I-head instead of the whole engine swap? Or does it make sense, since swapping motors to go with a more modern inline 6 from let's say the E34 535i? What's involved electronically? Thanks in advance.
