E28 Worth It??

Hi im really excited to be buying my first bmw. but just want to make sure its worth it. its a 1987 BMW 535i or (is) whats the diff? anyway its got a 3.4 l6 motor, power everything and runs perfect, but the downer is that it has 223,XXX miles on it, is it worth 2000$ or no, i could probably get it for 1600 but just want to know what i should look for... Thanks, and btw i took it for a test drive and it runs perfectly. Thanks very much..

The "is" has a couple nice bits that the "i" won't have. A different front air dam, a spoiler, they typically have sport seats, and usually come in diamondschwarz, blue, red, and silver.
Here's mine, repainted (by PO) fire engine red, mudbogged somewhere, still straightening everything out.

I bought this "is" a year ago. I've only driven it home and for a week, when it ran like crap. The PO really did some damage to it, trying to fix it. It doesn't matter, he car is so much fun to drive, and, believe it or not, the faster I drove it, the better it got. This one has a lot of bugs, but the E28 is pretty hearty. 22xxxx miles is high, but the M30 is pretty tuff.
Do it. Spend the least amount now, because there WILL be maintenance needed. The good news is, the car lasts forever, and it's easy to work on.

p.s. the "is"s are a little more rare than the "i"s. Good luck!

Nice, would've been better in "stick", but still nice. And, at a good price. If you take care of it, it will run forever.

Looks good. If I were you I would jump on it. For the least amount of money that they will accept of course.

Aside from the wear on the seats, it looks like a decently kept example. If you can get them down on the price by a couple hundred, it's definitely worth it.

The engine really is bulletproof ... it will easily do that much more. The rest of the stuff on a e28 isn't really problematic to begin with. The suspension might need to be redone if it hasn't already been, but aside from that, there really isn't much to break. e28s are pretty simple cars.
