Hi guys, I have an 89' 525i with a bad 5spd in it, i found a good tranny on ebay from an 85' 528e. I figured since the block was the same it should fit. I've been looking for a new clutch and am finding that these tranny's have different ones. Still not sure if that means they wont work with eachother, but dont wanna find out the hard way. Also, does anyone know what the digits in the part number stand for eg. 260.0.1270.90. ? thanks.
All BMW gearboxes are power rated to suit the engine they’re coupled to so it may fit but may have trouble handling the power if the clutches are different that is probably for different power.
The first 2 digits relate on group Numbers:
00 general
11 engines
12 engine electrics
13 Fuel systems
16 fuel tank and lines
21 clutches
23 manual gearboxes
24 auto gearboxes
I can’t remember them all. All the numbers aren’t used but they go up to 99, if you need anymore let me know???
