My 85 535i has been idling wierd lately when i turn it on it will idle normally and then i will run it for a while a then come to a stop and it will have a really rough idle and will run like crap till i get to about 4 thousand rpm's and then its fine till i get to about 65 mph and then it runs really rough. So i was wondering if anybody else has run into this problem on their 535. I would greatly appreciate a reply if anybody knows what it is.

I have 530i, 1995 model, v-8, automatic. It had the same problem which you are saying. I got it computer checked, found the oxygen sensor weak(02 Sensor). So at times it starts working or some times it drops up.
Before changing check out the volts from the volt meter. Get one with a digital display, not necessary an expensive one. Try to find your 02 sensor. It is usually in the middle of the silincer pipe. All what you have to do is that go to a gas filling station and stand in the oil bay duck. Once you locate the position the place one needle of the volt meter on its positive wire and second needle should be properly earth with the car body. Start the car and ask someone to sit on the driving wheel. Tell him to take the rpm to 3 for about 1 minute or so. Youon the mean while take the rrading. The reading should fluctuate between 02 to 07volts. If it remains constaint, it means the sensor is faulty, otherwise if the reading is moving up and down it is all right.
Replace a 02 sensor (oxygen sensor) with a second hand one from the junk yard. I did the same. Mine is running perfectly for the last 3 months.
Try it and keep me posted
Best of luck
