e-34 Suspension Change . . .

Hi I wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction,

my original 1989 e34 525ise auto blew its gearbox and wasnt worth repair but has uprated lowered Bilsteins all round

my newer 1994 e34 520ise has standard suspension, and i was hoping to swap my uprated lowered Bilsteins off the old car onto the newer car, but I popped into my local BMW dealer to see if they were the same on both cars and they tell me that the suspension on the 1989 car only went up to 1991, and the newer car is a 1994 so does this mean they are not interchangeable ? :-(

any advice would be appreciated
