Question Door Lock Problems

I have a 1990 535i. I locked all the doors as normal with the key. And later when my wife went to unlock it (with the key) all the doors unlocked except the driver's door. So now the driver's door is locked and will not unlock. You can not unlock it by key or manually. All the other doors unlock and lock manually. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Yup, I had the same problem with my passenger door. If you cant manually pull up on the inside lock, the electronic actuator is bad. I have priced these from 139-160 each. I am working on another solution using a Spal universal 5 wire actuator. They are only about 25-30, but wont plug straight in, it entails rewiring. I am hoping this solution works, if not I gotta buy the one from the stealership...

Thanks Bull. Now how in the world can I install an actuator if I can't open the door?

That's really sucks, you gonna have to try to wiggle the key manually and hope for the best.

I had to roll the window down, get hold of the plastic door lock piece with a set of pliers. CAREFULLY lift up, while trying the outside handle. It feels like you are going to break it. It will come up enough to open the door. What I did was remove the electronic actuator and put it back together. It renders the one door back to manual, and the outside lock doesnt unlock that door, you can only unlock it from the inside. The outside lock will still electronically lock/unlock the other 3.

I'm not sure if I'd use the key, as 16valex said, it may break off, its REALLY tight. I tried the key at first and it REALLY felt like it could break.
