Hello,,
I dont know if this has asked before and i have searched the forum. Can anyone tell me if the Dinan series with the below description is worth the money?
-------------------------------------------------------------
Part #:
Price:
SE39-40LSM
$2896.00
Labor Units: 55.0
Emission Status: 50 State Emission Legal
List of Included Items: Stage 2 Engine Software; High Flow Cold Air Intake System; Free Flow Exhaust; Strut Tower Brace; Signature Floor Mats; Serial Numbered Dinan S-540 Plaque; Dinan Deck Lid Badge
Special Notes: For cars equipped with Automatic Transmissions, use Signature Series Part #SE39-40LSA ($3245.00 and 60 labor units-includes Automatic Transmission Software)
Peak Horsepower: 305 @ 5700 rpm
Peak Torque: 348 lb/ft @ 3500 rpm
---------------------------------------------------------------
Are there any other alternative in gaining the horsepower? Or is there other companies besides Dinan??
I appreciate all comments,,
thanks...
I Dinan'd my car in the sense of the software upgrade. I did notice a difference. I wouldn't get the package - leave out the mats, the plaque and badge. I also don't think I'd get the muffler. Dyno results for replacement mufflers are under whelming, one or two of them even reduce horse power. Dyno results for the cold air intake isn't that great either.
I will look at using their full throttle body and using a K&N filter in the stock air box.
My car is a 97 528i so far Dinan'd software added and K&N filter in the stock box.

I own a 2001, 540i and I have the dinan stage 4 software, the CAI, high flow air meter, throttle body, remus exhaust, strut tower brace. I have never dynoed my car, but it has a lot better throttle response, torque and acceleration.
I think all of the modifications are worth it. I have the rear deck badge, but not the mats.

I haven't figured this out yet: Dinan prices are so high, and they quote labor hours, so do their prices include installation labor as well? Warranty? Sheeesh, they're sky-frappin'-high if all you get is the parts...

Ya those prices are for parts only. You notice the labor units added, 55 units = 5.5 hours at a Dinan certified installation center. So figure roughly $100 an hour is another $550 on top of the parts prices. Dinan makes some great products but they are not for someone looking to save a buck thats for sure. From what I see however, its not only Dinan but all of the "quality" manufacturers for BMW are all very pricey. Definitely with BMW if you want good quality products that supply high performance you're gonna have to open that check book. Maybe if you ask nicely they will send some extra lube in the box if you know what I mean. :P
Cheers,
