Hi, I am wondring if the M3 engine (i believe its the S54) can fit into an E34 525i without modifying too much.. Someone earlier told me that it can be fit in rather easy.. but if not, what engines can fit? i currently have the M20 and its OLD (211k mi) and i am thinking of either rebuilding it or putting a newer more powerful one in.. what options do i have?? I would like to do as least of mods (engine mounts, etc) to get an engine to fit in as possible.. although for some i guess its worth it.. Thanks
Some people have gone as far as putting a V12 from a 750i into e34s... of course that takes more modifying than you want to get into.
The m3 engine should fit with very little modification to the mounts... it's a inline six 3.2L engine, which means that the mounts won't be very far off... heck if i remember correctly it should bolt right into your existing mounts... i'll try to find out tonight.
You also need the ECU...
If your car is automatic don't even bother, as you'll blow your tranny real fast.
well i got an e34 with 270,000 miles on original m20 and tranny and it runs fine. u shudnt be losing power or havign too many problems
u shud be able to fit the m3 inline 6 in there as i dont think the engine bay changed wen they have the v8 in it. and sicne ive seen people with v12's in theirs...well they'd laff at u if u cudnt fit it

how can i find out info about the engine mounts on my car compared to the ones that are required by the M3 engine in terms of location, size, and whatever is necessary to check the fit?
