Anyone out there know of any replacement options for the cup holders on 2000 528I. I have the cheesy in dash versions. I would settle for a cover plate to hide the space where the broken holders were. I have heard that 2001 has sturdier cup holders. Will they fit in my car?
My cupholders are so bad that I don't use them ever, whenever I use them they just seem to break and I get them replaced (usually)...It just helps me keep my car clean and gives me an excuse to tell my friends when I don't want them to take food or drinks in my car
I can recommend the two cup holders I purchased from Mike at www.ultimatecupholders.com for my '90 525i. He has designs that mount low to the floor against to the center 'hump" (on either side) - for my e34 they pin into the carpet securely, but are removed easily to clean the mats. For later models they fasten under the shifter console lower edge. Because they are formed from spring steel, they can be bent to accomodate the diameter cup/bottle/can you use.
ha ha ha. cup holders are for old men and thier buicks and caddys be a man and stick it between your legs, cause you left hand should be steering and right hand should be shifting
E28's dont need not stinking cup holders

I bought stock replacement cup holders from eBay for $20 + shipping. No one I know of has come up with a mounted replacement that works well.
I have heard many enthusiests say they do not believe that drivers should not drink any beverages while driving because it takes the focus off what is important. I remember reading an article from a BMW engineer that said he did not believe in cup holders and other useless, non essential equipment.
If you're seen driving while taking a drink over here you are charged with reckless driving (or something like that) as it is deemed you are not in full control of your vehicle.
Last year a woman was fined for eating a kitkat while stationary at a set of traffic lights while another was fined for taking a quick swig of drink.
I tried a cupholder from TEC and it's held up pretty well. It'll hold a soda can or small drink, I don't think a coffee mug will fit. Price is steep, about $90. But if you're concerned about spilling your drink taking a sharp turn it's worth checking out. If u drive a manual I would probably not recommend it (drink gets in the way of shifting). Some of the local BMW dealers carry them. http://www.tecaccessories.com/
