Exclamation Computer help

Hi everyone,
I´m new to the forum so bare with me if this topic has been revised before.
I just bought an used 525i (2007) with less than 17 mi on it. Runs like heaven, everthing mechanical is perfect, except for a litlle leak in the carter. I took it to the dealer and fixed the problem.. they said the leak was just starting and it was minimal... anyway it got fixed.
The thing I realized after running the car for couple of weeks is that apparentely there are other few issues:
1. The gear stick can be moved from drive to neutral to reverse to parking in any direction without pressing the security button on it. A little dangerous if you ask me..... but not a big issue if Im carefull while driving not to play with the stick. Took it to the dealer and they said not a big problem as well. According to them the problem relys on a little magnet on the steptronic component... end of explanation.. I have to change the whole steptronic piece (around 700 dollars), cause the little magnet is not sold separately.
2. The computer.. and this is my main issue. OBC does not rest the numbers shown on maintenance. Meaning if for example now 15000 mi to go to change oil is shown, after 200 mi its still says 15000 mi to go. This happens to all other components advised by the OBC. Except with gas range, which works fine.
So it doesn´t make any logic to me that it can calculate and rest the gas range, but all other components remain the same, no matter what.

I took it to the dealer to ask them what was going on. They said probably a software problem. Ask them to connect it the car to their computer, and apparentely, they couldnt do anything (check or solve the problem) because when they plug the car´s computer into the diagnostic computer (the dealer´s) an error was shown (the steptronic problem i just mentioned). So they said that i needed to change the steptronic in order to check the computer.

It just doesnt make any sense to me, and it worries me because I think they are hidding something from me.

Just wondering, after this long, probably boring story (sorry!!!) if anyone of you guys has had a similar problem with the computer or stepronic.

A million thanks in advance,

EW

Once again, your car is in the wrong shop.
A VERY cheap investment is a manual. If you can't get Father Bentley to advise you Brother Hayes can still help.
A "steptronic" is your transmission. If there's a magnet it's in the pan reaching out for stray metal bits. Push the shifter to the left, it should enter "sports zone". There are various folk selling shifter rebuild kits, for this reason as well also.
What the heck is a carter?

Well, yes... a manual would be useful. Now....wrong shop... hard to tell... here there´s only one!.
The problem with the carter (i really dont know what´s the propper mechanical name for it in English). The "carter" is the box that holds the transmission fluid.
That problem got solved.
The only concern I have is why the maintenance numbers (oil change, brake pads, filter, etc) are not changing, no matter how long I drive the car.... meaning by this, that if the oil change remaining distance is 5000 Km, after 300 the computer keeps on indicating 5000km.

Thanks for your comment and help.
