Collecting info on '05 545i engine noise

545 owners, I have a problem and I need to know if any of you are experiencing the same thing. In the morning, cold, my engine sounds perfect, purrs like a kitten. But once I put her in gear and put a load on the drivetrain, I can hear a knock/tick/tapping noise. While it is faint, it stills bothers the heck out of me and the dealers service department, who has tired everything and can find nothing wrong, says the noise is typical for 05 545is. Does anyone else experience this noise, can you try and see if you do? I might be taking action against the dealer depending on your responses, thank you.

From what you describe it sounds like the typical noise that most V8s in general have. The first M60s all the way up until now have had a slight 'knocking' type of noise.

i have the noise and i put a thread on this site about it. the bmw engineer said that it needed a new engine they put the engine in and called me this am and said the the new engine makes the same noise. if the factory engineer says it is a standard noise in this engine why did they expend the cost to replace it something does not sound correct
