| I have just bought a 2001 BMW 520i SE, was first used in Feb 2002, has 65000 miles, the main attraction was the interieur for my wife. There are two concerns I have:
(1) At cold start it has a slight chirping until the engine temperature remains in 50% of the blue zone, after about 50% of the blue zone is exceeded the chirping disappears and the engine sounds like normal. I never heard anything like this with my other cars.
(2) when the engine already well warmed up and I drive at low speeds so that the tyre noise is low and I can hear the engine again, I can hear a hardly audible but still present whooshing (low frequency whistling) with variable amplitude. First I thought I am just imagining it but my wife confirmed it. It is disturbing as I did not hear this with my other cars.
Given the price of the car I am concerned whether these sounds are normal?
I would be eager to know whether these are indicators of problems later to develop. Would be grateful for any comments.
