| Clutch "Tink" Diagnosis
Hello!
I am new to the thread and bimmer ownership all togther. I just picked up a 98 540i/6speed. Fantastic car so far (3 days of ownership!) but I have noticed a noise when letting out the clutch into 1st and 2nd gears (probably exists in others but wind/motor gets too loud to hear). The best I can describe it is a "tink" or bell sound. It occurs when the clutch pedal first moves from the floor and again when the clutch catches in the friction zone. My first suspicion would be a clutch lever connection or clutch springs then possibly drive shaft etc. The noise does not occur in neutral or with the car off as far as I can tell. I tested the clutch for slippage but it is solid. Car has 112k miles on it and I believe it is the original clutch.
Anyone experience this or have some preliminary ideas? I will be taking a deeper look this evening. Thanks for the input. |
