Two weeks ago I got in my '98 528 and the blower for the automatic climate control would not turn. The fan speed was all the way to the max but no air. It was really hot in the car so I got home with the windows down. Looked around quickly and decide to look at it later.
In the evening when I got in the car, everything was working normally.
Now I got the same experience yesterday, blower off then (few hours later) everything gets back to normal. Even if I turn it off or adjust the fan speed manually, nothing seems to be working until the car has cooled down.
Both times, the car was in the sun in a high temperature day.
Has anyone ever experienced that problem? Could it be a fuse or is there a sensor somewhere?
I had the same problem on my '02 530i. I took it to the dealer (under warranty) and they had to replace a relay or sensor or something in the blower (sorry I can't remember which part it was). Since I got it back -- no issues.
Look what I found on the Bavauto site called "Blower resistor for car with automatic air conditioning". There is a big heat sink on top of it. My guess is that this is what is causing the problem.
Anybody ever bought one of those and would know where it goes?
The final stage resistor will make it do those syptoms it does not just make it blow sporadically. just tell the dealer you want the final stage replaced becasue the ac is not working.
