There is click sound underneath, on low speed when turning the steering right, for example when taking an exit from a roundabout. The sound is coming from under the engine compartment in the driver side. It is one time Click sound …
The control arms & bushes worn out & therefore I've replaced them, a week back. I have not experienced the "Knock" noise after that but today, when I was reversing to stop in a parking & turning the steering wheel left & right, I’ve heard “one knock” noise coming from underneath. Turn the S Wheel more left & then right, heard the Knock again.
I have this on my 94 tds, only at slow parking speeds when moving back and forth to line car up to park it.Car has new thrust arms/bottom arms shocks/anti roll bar drop links and recently passed its m.o.t.Sometimes when braking I hear the same sort of click but only at low speeds, its not my steering box loose as I have checked that,I am starting to think it is something to do with anti roll bar as steering is turned, mainly near full lock each way and in around the same spot just before full lock each side so that rules out the power steering pump pressure release.I have yet to check all subframe mountings properly but a glance a few days ago showed nothing amiss.I will have a good look this weekend when I can get the girlfriend turning the wheel while I crawl underneath it while its wheels are on the floor with engine running and will post my findings.
Had a look under mine as I changed the oil,no time for a full inspection today.I found one of the pipes for the auto box cooler had come away from its mounting bracket, the bracket being a clamp that holds both pipes side by side and is fairly substantial is bolted just to the side of the the power steering pump, the part of the clamp that holds the lower pipe had broken and was letting it hang down about 15mm.A quick shake and it taps the metal of the pipe onto the bracket with the sort of noise I have been hearing,so a few large cable ties have sufficed for now to hold it back into position and a drive later when I go out should prove the fault is cleared.
