check engine light

hey guys i just purchased a 1995 e34 525i

runs great after rebuilding tranny and new radiator

now i have a check engine light and no owners manual
I have downloaded the bentley manual but cannot get the
engine codes to come up according to their instructions
(help )what could i be doing wrong I know its probably me.

I have a 1991 525I and also when purchase has engine light on. I replace the O2 sensor and the light went out. Must of the time is that simple.

First You Need To Pull The Codes Using A Scanner With The " Bm1 " Round Connector Located In The Engine Compartment. Otherwise You Are Shooting Im The Dark.

Get a code reader from Bav auto or another source. Then you have track down the culprit from there, could any number of things throwing the code, or multiple codes for that matter.

Ifixed the light problem . I also orderd a code reader for the future.

I am glad that just the O2 was the problem,,,.. Make sure you get the correct sensor reader,, look at the specs for your beemer..
