My Check Engine Light on my 1997 528I is on, but when I check for Error codes, there is none. I just put a new gas cap on two weeks ago, my engine oil level is good. What else can cause this?
Well if the Check Engine light is on, at least in my cases, it needs to go to the shop haha!! Probally needs a tune up, cuz I dont think that stuff flashes across the screen when it needs that cuz nothing is really wrong yet
you know your not paying attention when this happens:

Mine came on this morning. I've got a half tank of gas and plan to fill it up tomorrow. I suspect (hope) mine is caused by a vapor leak, caused by the gas cap. If you've just replaced the cap, have you done anything else recently, like change the type of fuel you're using, etc.?
Okay, mine light when away this morning -- one day after filling up the tank and making sure the gas cap was on tight! Whew, I'm glad it wasn't the O2 sensor or the other dozen things that were suggested throuhout this forum.
