Changing The Transmission Oil Filter

I want to change my auto transmission filter myself so I can spend money on other parts of the car.
Anyways, I thought it would be a straight-forward process as listed on bmwe34.net, however after getting prices from a few suppliers I am being told conflicting information regarding the filter replacement.
One mob says it requires an overhaul or something like that. They also mentioned something about a oil strainer (not filter).

Is it straight-forward, a bit more complicated then changing the engine oil filter, or am I looking at a bigger job? :dunno

Cheers

Life-time stuff?
Sorry but I don't understand this. Am I supposed to replace the filter or not?

Life-time describes the transmission fluid on 96 models and up. Although BMW has a 100K miles transmission fluid service plus filter for about $500. Your car does not fit that category since it is 1991 model hence u don't have to worry about it! and yes change the fluid plus filter.
good luck
