Cd Changer Acting Up - BMW Forum

Hey all,

1999 540i with DSP and OEM CD Changer. CDs will play for a little while, but then start to fade out and ultimately stop playing altogether.

The changer does have the mini-coaxial input for DSP and is BMW part number 82 11 1 469 404.

Any idea what causes this? And, should I repair or replace?

sounds like it's browning out on you. Check the power and grounds on it, as well as the relay and fuse for the system. Does anything else fade out when this happens?

Nothing else fades out. Just the CD. Radio and tape remain just fine. Once CD is 'off' for a while, it will play again, for a while.

Also, the part number of my player is 82 11 1 469 404. I've read elsewhere that this model is not compatible with DSP systems, which my car has. Any thoughts on this? It DOES have a mini-coax hookup, apparently for the DSP.
