A/C Issues FSU Replaced

I'm getting ready to strap a bomb to this 2000 (528i). We've been having issues with the a/c not working or working when it wants. It was turning on and off constantly, not working at all, and just being a pain. Now that the weather is getting warmer its a bigger issue. Read that the FSU may be faulty and tend to fail pretty regularly. Replaced it yesterday and it did not help. Is there some sort of programming that needs to happen when replacing the FSU?

What's the next likely culprit?

Not sure if taking it in for service is the right thing. It doesn't work right so servicing it won't help (I don't think).

"Servicing" could mean checking for leaks and filling it up.
If there's not enough fluid in there, that on and off again cycle is a sure symptom.
BTW, they ALL leak. Most just a little. Some more or less than others.

It's over a dozen years old.
Maybe you could get a big A/C refill can with a gauge from the autoparts store, and try that. Worked for me.
