Guys,

I'm a newbie here. I am seriously thinking about buying a '97 540i 6-speed with 62k miles. The car is almost flawless. Problems are: paint faded on the upper part of front and rear bumpers, CD changer and amplifier missing, and that's pretty much it.

I drove the car, engine is powerful, smooth and clean. Transmission is good, no noises of any kind in the car. Seems like a pampered car. No chips, dings or scratches. No sign of body damage.

I believe that the paint touch-up shouldn't cost me more than a few hundred bucks, and the CD changer is something that I can wait and get one when I find a good deal on Ebay. What about maintenance, though?

At 63k miles, what should I expect to need replacement? Clutch? Any idea on cost to replace the clutch? Shocks?

Thank you in advance.

Flavio

Everything should be fine, but it may need some maintenance items, like filters, and spark plugs. It's anyone's guess as to the life of the clutch.
