Buy A 1991 520i

Hey Guys,

Could you provide me with some info? I am thinking of buing a 520i 1991 with 62,000 original km on the clock, or a 1992 with 91,000 km.

Now, this would be my first BMW and I am not sure wether I am buying the best car in the world or I am buying "the cat in the sac"!

Is there anything in particular I should be aware of? And is this car known for breaking down constantly and the never ending story of bringing the car to the mec.?

Any comments would be greatly appriciated.

I have this exact car. Mine has 114,000km on the clock.

Probably better to go for the lower KM model. an extra 30,000 km is a big dent!

Those are still quite low kms, lower than mine anyway. The average of these cars in Australia is around 200,000km


They are a fantastic car although i have recently had some problems as it was driven on regular unleaded for a while and clouding up the combusion chamber with some carbon deposits.

The interior door trims are shrinking too, but that is because of Australia's hot climate and my grandma (she used to drive it too) parking it in the street in the sun. This is the only real frustration with this car!

But otherwise its an extremely reliable car. nothing has gone wrong and it drives very well. it's not as smooth as my Dad's 530i (E39), but its fun to drive and is a fantastic car!

How much is it costing you, seeing as though you mentioned the cost of cars in Denmark... Petrol is very expensive there too i have seen!
