I have a 1994 525 automatic with 66,000 miles. The heating to the rear passenger compartment doesn't get warm.

Yea Black eye my car does the same thing. My car is a 92 535i and i get cold air from the back vent I just closed it for the time being but would like to know what that is and how to fix it?

Its not broken
the reason is that they are fresh air vents only

I have 2 1998 528i's in my family and the rear vents don't seem to work really well.

they are not made to give heat...only fresh air from outside

same here... it's freezing most of the time in Ireland, and the back vents are useless ....:-(

You could direct warm air to the floor instead of the dash vents,
and If I'm not mistaken, floor vents do feed warm air to the rear from under the front seats.

i bet changing your micro filter will definately help out
