Question Brakes Locked on E39

After exiting my outdoor parking spot with the tires spinning with all the ice, while I was still in the parking lot, all the brake lights came on and the brakes locked.

I had the hardest time getting the car back in a parking spot, as the car was hardly moving and would not go in the direction of the steering. I tried turning off the car, going forward and backwards, several times. I noticed that the brake pedal was locked at a high position and it that was hard to move the automatic transmission stick.

After finally somehow backing up into a parking spot (with all the adrenaline going, I don't quite remember how I got the car to steer), I left the car and it smelled like burned rubber. After waiting for a couple hours, I went out again and this time I didn't have any problems.

I'm guessing the ABS malfunctioned, any advice on how I should I proceed is appreciated -without having to mortgage the house!

Today is a clear day and the temperature is a balmy 34F. The ABS brake lights came on while accelerating on the highway and the brakes engaged - not 100%, the car still moved at reduced power and it smelled like rubber when I parked the car.

If your car has traction control, that may be malfunctioning.

It was the brake fluid that had turned to mud.
