i have a squeal in my front brakes, and here is what I have tried to do to correct it:
1. sanded original pads and rotors (ones that came on the car when i bought them, non oem) - still sqealed
2. got new clips for the front pads (they were missing)
- was good for about 2 days, then started squealing again
3. purchased new Pagid pads for front
good for a day - next day, started squealing
4. had rotors turned - found there was a slight runout
good for about 45 minutes of driving
oh, and after the rotors were turned (with new oem pads) i did the break in procedure to set the pads correctly
At cold startup, everything is nice and quiet until about 30 minutes of driving when the pads heat up. Then at every stop, with light brake pressure, I get a nice loud squeal.. not a grinding noise, but just a high pitched tone. If I apply harder pressure to the brakes, it goes away.
WTF, do i need to frickin hang a set of new rotors now? damn it is killing me!!!!
oh, also when the pads were put on, I sprayed a generous amount of anti squeal compound on them. my buddy Rob (runs Pulido's automotive) swears by the stuff for german brakes.
Wow Jason I thought you were in Brazil? It sounds like you got started off on the wrong foot. Brake squeals can be a bitch even when you do everything right. Pagid makes a good pad and sometimes you get an incompatability between the pad and rotor. I am not a fan of turning rotors on imports. New pads new rotors every time....those on a strict budget will disagree with this.
I use Jurid pads and Balo rotors with great success... just did mine a few months ago. I have had problems with the spray on brake anti squeal compound ..the rubbery plastic looking kind. The grease antisqueal works better you just have to be careful where you put it.
The other option is to try ceramic pads...the intial bite is not as good as Pagid, but pretty close. The squeals don't hurt anything...just drive you nuts.
I have a spare set of ceramics you can try...let me check the part numbers as the 540 may take a different pad.
I went through a bad rotor scenario with Bembro and just started over out of desperation. I will PM you and see if we can get this solved. Sorry for your problems Bro
thanks...yeah i am usually a new rotor/new pad kinda guy too, it was just one more thing to try since the rotors did have a bit of run out on them. my flight leaves at 7:40 tomorrow morning, so i am gonna put brake squeal out of my head for a week and come back fresh to attack it again..
