Brake Problem on my 528i

Last week I took my car into a repair shop to have them replace both right side wheel bearings. I got a call at home from the mechanic saying that my front brake pads were down to zero and that they had already worn well into the rotors. I went down to take a look for myself and sure enough, they were in bad shape. My brake wear light never illuminated, nor had I noticed any noise or appearent lack of braking power. Does anyone know if a bad brake sensor wire would cause the system to default to the "good" setting. I would think that if the sensor was bad (or removed altogether) that it would illuminate the "Brake" enunciator on the dash. Any ideas? I've already bought the parts to replace my pads, rotors, and sensors, but I would like to know if there is a problem with the sensor wire, or something more serious.

Thanks in advance!

im almost 100% sure that your sensor has been looped.. most times when replacing the brakes the sensors also need replacing, most owners dont wanna spend the money on the sensor so they just ask the tech to loop the system. your car is a 97 and im gonna assume that your not the original owner so it was probably done by the previous.

Thanks! It definately sounds like that could be the problem. I bought the car from my sister, who bought it from Hendrick BMW as a CPO car. It was always serviced by BMW, so I can't imagine why they would do that. Either way, I'm fixing it this weekend.

Thanks again.

Smile I think I found the problem.

I replaced pads and rotors last weekend. When I inspected the brake sensor wire on the front caliper, I found that it had somehow fused itself to the brake pad backing. I replaced both pads and sensors so I anticipate that I won't have the same problem in the future.
