BMW 525i, 2002 Steering and throttle problems - need opinio please

Hello there,

i have two problems here and really need an advice befor going to mechanic...

Steering:
when am driving in reverse and turn my steering to the left maximum and drive back i hear a noise somewhere close to the left-front tire or axe. its like "tak tak tak" i looked under the car after removing cover there is an almost dried leackage. mechanic told me i need to remove steering gear and he suspects that leackage is from inside steering rack and need to replace all which is expensive. Please advice me what to do am so worried.

Throttle or something:
while the car is parked. i start the car, i press the speed pedal strongly and suddenly release, what happens is that rpm meter goes down gradually till my car goes off and need to re-start. also, sometimes while driving slowly i press the pedal suddenly the car almost chocking. sometimes when am making a U-turn i press little and car goes off.

please bear in mind that i had battery problem for 2 weeks and changed it only today.

Please guide me on what to do.
i think i need some great diagnosis here please
