I just had the BMW Universal Bluetooth Hands-Free System installed in my 2002 530i. I'm using a Motorola V600 phone but can't make a call on the phone from the car without it going through the stereo speakers. Does anyone know how easily switch between hands-free and "private" mode? Thanks.

you will have a 'bluetooth button' somewhere in the car which pairs/depairs the phone with the cars bluetooth receiver. In my E46 330i, its under the armrest.

I don't think that is possible. The Bluetooth handsfree protocol may not allow this level of flexibility. When you use a bluetooth headphone, for example, the sound always goes through that headphone.

Also note that in many states it is illegal to drive while holding a mobile phone. For this reason, I doubt BMW will allow you to initiate a call from your car while allowing you to silence the car's speaker and route audio to the phone itself.
