BIG issues with 540i oil separator ?

I understand that the oil separators can become problematic with a number of BMW models and MYs. In some cases there have been severe consequences; as in cold weather causing freezing of the valve, with subsequent oil saturation of the cylinders.

Does the "cold climate" separator part version address the most severe problems? In my case, in Maryland? Thanks!

On your car it is at the rear of the engine intake manifold and they last around 80-100,000 miles or 8-10yrs, if your have problems just change it, they are normally only available from BMW and now come as one complete unit, dont forget to order the gasket at the same time, here in the UK they are around £48.00 + £6.00 for the gasket.
