I am pre empting trouble and building up tools for DIY,
What would the best and/or cheapest way to read codes?
The new iphone OBC II looks good, but I guess I would need an adapter.
Anyone use this? Thanks.

Will that software run on Mac platform? If not I'll need to trade my old Macbook pro for a intel chip model to run Windoz..Oh hell, said I would never go back to the dark side.

If you have an iPod, iPhone or iPad then the Logworks kit may be the way to go, although I am not sure how deep it will let you delve.

Have loaded Carsoft 6.5.06 on a Toshiba lappy WinXP and Chinese cable. All functioning nicely. Cleared a few codes and 540iA runs fine except that now idle is high 700-800 rpm. Any thoughts why this would occur?

Not sure. What did your dig into that may have this affect? The Air Con isn't on by chance is it?

I used Carsoft on Saturady afternoon. Last night on the way home, behold idle dropped to normal. And has remained at 500rpm this morning. I can only assume Skynet infiltrated BMW's around 13 years ago. We now know any weird happenings are a result of that.
