Hi, i own a 99 528i automatic and my check engine light comes on interminent.
So i finally took the car to the dealer to get it scaned and they told me I need a new transmission, but i don't belive them, because my transmission has been shifting fine(not slipping, not jerking, grinding) and my car has only 67k. they told me that the fault code 111 was poping up and that meant internal transmission failure, so can you guys please help me out. they whant to charge me 3700 for a new tranny.
Have you guys heard of that code before?
Seeking advice for similar problem. I have a 1994 540i. Transmission would jump into saftey mod every once in a while. Mechanic said it was bad altenator and we replaced it. It also had a mysterious oil leak. After much cleaning and observation, it was found the transmission oil was blowing back out of the vent hose? Mechanic says I need new transmission. Could this be true? Any other similar prolems?
go to another dealer or another mechanic, if you say it comes on interminent. Does heat or time have anything to do with it, or is it when you drive realy hard? It could be something simpler like the torgue converter or something?
The fluid leak is more pronounced the longer it is driven. Does not leak sitting in the drive. Thanks for the advice. Going to another mechanic. I'll let you know what comes up.
As you know, the transmission consists of 3 main elements, the torque converter (front of the transmission), The body valve (bottom of transmission) and the gearbox (top of transmission).
The manual also mentions that some small transmission problems can be fix by REPLACING the fluid! You need to talk to someone who knows transmissions...
The fluid doesn't leak while parked but does while driving?
thats wierd but are you sure its tranny fluid not something else?
And i had my engine light and my tranny go into safty mode once when i was messing around and going sideways in the rain. But i turned the car off and it reset.
Good luck man and keep us posted with your problem.
Same problem I have today!!! Brought my 99 528i into "stealer" today and found code 111 ... they are recommending replacement of the torque converter @ $2150. Yikes! Oh...this comes just after I had the fuel tank sensor replaced 3 weeks ago at $450. Car has 68k miles.
