Back up light switch?

The back up lights on the e34 are busted, they are getting power to the bulbs, but dont come on.. so it must be the switch.

Can anyone tell me how to get the gear shifter plate and surround area off to get to the switch? i cant see anyway to do it without braking the black gear selector center peice..

Thanks..

try getting a complete service manual. one that the bmw mechanics use. that should tell you where the switches are located and the part numbers.
