auto transmission problem - BMW Forum

hi
i have an x5 and am constantly loosing power whilst driving. It will go and then just loose power computer saying transmission failsafe. the garage just says change the gear box but im not convinced. also has anyone ha dto change the oil and an problems with the gear boxes any advice much appreciated

what you are feeling when you see the tranny go into "limp mode" is the tranny shifting into 3rd gear and not coming out ever, until you turn off the engine. I would suggest changing the filter and fluid and then checking the tranny computer if all those check out time for a new tranny.

Is your check engine light on? If so, get your mechanic to check the fault code by plugging into the OBD computer. It will narrow down the cause of the problem you are having. Let us know!!!! JM>
