Which Auto Transmission Oil To Use?

I am about to get by tranismission flushed and get a filter changed.

I was told by the (BMW trained) mechanics to use Mobil Multipurpose ATF, which is equivalent to Dexron 3. After looking at the Mobil website it was recommended that ATF220 be used as it is recommended for ZF gearboxes and is equivalent to Dexron 2.

I think Transmax M (equivalent to Dexron 2) was used previously in the gearbox.

So which one should I use?
