auto trans issues

hi, i am a proud owner of a 89 525i, problem i 'm having is the tranny lost all forward gears while driving, only have reverse, fluid is clean and full, i called the dealer and talked to 1 of the tech's and he believes its the torque converter, i'm mechanically inclined and what he said didn't make any sense since i still have a reverse gear, can anyone give me any pointers as where to look for the problem? or should i start looking for a replacement tranny, thanks Mike

sounds like a valve body issue. Honestly I would advise replacing the whole trans if you replace the valve body
