i have a 97 E39 and today, my alarm just quit on me. i can lock the car with the key and the door won't open. However, when i roll down all the windows and lock the door then try to open it, the alarm doesn't trigger any loud obnoxious noise that it usually does. anyone know how to fix this problem? i even tried changing the fuse in the rear but still no siren. please HELP.

Does the remote work? It may need to be initialized.

I had the same problem on my E34.
I had to buy a new siren from BMW cost about 100.
Sorted it out though.

It's prolly the wiring. Check your ground connections. If you know what type of alarm system you have, then get hold of the wiring diagram and check it out yourself. Shouldn't be too difficult. You can as well take it to Best Buy or few other places where they install alarm systems. But usually they charge a lot. The best buy here chrages like $60/hr. They might spend more than an hr to check out everything. So you may end up paying ~$100 just for trouble shooting. By the way, there should be a ON-OFF switch on the speaker under the hood. Try switching it.
Hope this helps.
Good luck

Okay try this. Look for the procedure to re-initialize your remote-keys. It's somewhere on this forum.
It might work.
