Sometimes, when I lock or unlock my 2002 E39 the alarm activation/deactivation provides an audible (chirp?). Most times, though, it doesn't.
How do I get it to audible all the time when I activate/deactivate the alarm? I don't think this is a take-to-dealer-to-reprogram issue since it seems to come and go at will. It is convenient to have the audible so that I don't have to look back to see that the lights flashed and the alarm armed.
Sounds like the unit is beginning to fail. My car had the same symptoms until one day stop making the chirp sound. Took it to the dealer and was told the unit had to be replaced.
The alarm itself. The alarm is located above the rear tire on the passenger side (right side). I believe I was quoted $120 for the part plus installation. The rear tire has to be remove to access it, a pain if you ask me!
have you tried pushing the lock button twice within about 2 seconds? A lot of cars do that: 1st press gives you silent arm with flash, 2nd press gives you another flash with audible chirp. not sure about your particular car though. food for thought...

Thanks for the suggestion, I did try this. Guess I'll have to take it in for servicing.
