Burnout86 is an unknown quantity at this point
Im young and I have 3,000 dollars. What type of BMW would make a good reliable car that i can work on?

mmmm. I might wait a little longer. I like to maintain cars, and if that's your budget, you might have a tuff time keeping one up.

If you wanna give 'er a try, I might recomend an e30 3series. Probably the most fun and reliable I can think of. You won't win any races, but with time and mods, you can make it fun as hell.

Jllphan has the right idea; I would stay away from BMWs at least for now, good ones cost much more than $3000. For the same amount you can get a nice Japanese car (Toyota for one) with much less headaches and less expensive to maintain, if any, than a beat up BMW with more than 1/4 of a million miles on it!!
