Adding Navigation to an E39

I have a 2003 540iA that I really enjoy. My only regret is I didn't order it with the original factory navigation system. I am wondering if anyone here has experience adding this after the fact. Is it possible? What were the approximate costs? Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

I'm doing a complete retro fit in my '03 530. Cost of about $3000 for a kit direct from Germany, another $150 or so for parts needed that are not in the kit. This does not include any labor. Very costly. Or you can source the parts used from e-bay but this is a headache and very risky.

I wonder if anyone has an old Nav theyre interested in selling. I dont have a nav at all. Would a old nav work in my 97? How hard would it be to install?
