I'm planning on trading in my E30 and picking up an E34 530i. I'm handy with a wrench, and aside from the huge engine cover, are these cars able to be worked on? Like, would I be able to do possible (if needed) engine work as a shadetree mechanic? Any help is useful!

The cars are really fun to work on ... However; the V8s can get real tricky if your not familiar with them. Either way you'll learn quickly. It's all logical.
BTW: I don't know if your aware, but you may want to make sure that the car has had the block replaced at some point in it's lifetime - Unless the car feels perfect.

Yeah I've been reading up on that. I mean, this car is clean! It's got 143k miles on it, and still has not crapped out. Has had like, two owners. All records. I shall double check today... I hope I hope I hope I hope!
