99' 540i with valve train tick?

Looked at a 99' 540 today that was beautiful. Very well kept for the 149k on the clock. Guy just did the timing chain guides with help of a BMW tech.

Only issue is a strange rpm related tick coming from the drivers side bank. Sounds like its coming from one of the two middle cylinders. Any suggestions? Is this something to avoid completely even if he has it repaired? Sticky lifter or something? He let me drive it and you cant hear it during regular slow driving. Just at rest and window down. Thanks!

What oil are you using? Too thick an oil can result in a tick sound similiar to a lifter sticking. The second most common is the VANOS. Usually sounds like marbles but a tick is common as well.
